Amberley Snyder is a championship barrel racer. She was born on 29th January 1991 in California. Amberley is the daughter of the famous American baseball player Cory Snyder and his wife Tina. She is the second oldest out of five siblings. Her siblings are named Ashley, JC, Aubrey, and Autumn.
Amberley Snyder has always loved horses. She rode her first horse at the mere age of 3 and has been competing in rodeo barrel races ever since she was 7 years old. Not only does she barrel race, but she is also known for pole bending and breakaway roping. She used to spend all her summer weekends as a kid practicing and getting better at these sports.
Not only did she barrel race, but she was also extremely good at it. She won the 2009 All-Around Cowgirl World Championship in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association. To add to that, she was also the 2009-2010 Utah State FFA President.
Har barrel race career I was put on hold after she got into a car crash on 10th January 2010. While she was driving back from Utah to the National Western Stock Show in Denver Colorado she did not fast in her seat belt after she stopped at a gas station in Rawlings, Wyoming.
About 10 miles from the gas station she drifted into the other lane, over-corrected and her truck slid off the road and rolled 7 times before finally crashing. Since she was not wearing a seatbelt Amberley flew out of the truck and crashed into a fence post.
As a result of this accident, she crushed her t12 vertebra and was left paralyzed from the waist down. It took a year and half of intense physical therapy and the addition of a seat belt on her saddle but Amberley was finally able to resume riding and competed in a rodeo.
Meanwhile, she transferred colleges and went from Snow College to Utah State University where she was declared the captain of the school’s National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Team. Because of her hard work and talent, in 2014 she was awarded the Shane Drury ‘Nothin’ But Try’ scholarship.
Amberley Snyder got to compete in The American Rodeo by RFD-TV at AT&T stadium in Arlington Texas. She came second in the race and made a time of 15.3 seconds with her horse Power being only 0.6 seconds behind the winning horse. In 2016 she was in the top 5 for the Rocky Mountain Pro Rodeo Association and also won her Women’s Professional Rodeo Association card that same year. More recently she competes in the RAM Wilderness Circuit.
A children’s book ‘Walk Ride Rodeo’ was written and illustrated as a tribute to her and as an inspiration about overcoming adversities. Her story was also portrayed in a Netflix biopic ‘Walk. Ride. Rodeo.” which was released on March 8, 2019.
Today’s Snyder is a very popular motivational speaker and also has an active social media account when she posts a weekly ‘Wheelchair Wednesday’ video to showcase to her fans everyday things that have become more challenging for her post-accident.
