INTRODUCTION
Colin Arthur O’ Donoughue is an Irish actor and singer. He was born on 26th January 1981 in Drogheda, County Loath on the east coast of Ireland to a Roman Catholic family. He has starred in many fantasy and thrillers movies. He debuted as Michael Kovak (protagonist) alongside Anthony Hopkins (Father Lucas) in the horror-thriller film ‘The Rite’ (2011). He is best known for portraying Captain Killian ‘Hook’ Jones on the TV series Once Upon A Time. Prior to his acting career, he was a member of an Irish band The Enemies (2003-2013) co-founded in 2002. Unfortunately, he had to leave the band to pursue his acting career. He was also into theatre which created a path for him to Hollywood.
CAREER
Once Upon A Time is a fantasy adventure American TV series that was aired as a total of 7 seasons from 2011 to 2018. It is basically a show with a different fantasy storyline each season. Season 3 was based on the famous childrens’ story Peter Pan. O’ Donoghue did a fantastic job in portraying Captain Hook. He took suggestions and classes from the world-famous Captain Hook cast David Hoffman. Before his debut in Hollywood, Colin was already a well-known and established Irish actor. He won many awards and gained popularity as a native actor. He was awarded the 2003 Irish Film and Television Award for “Best New Talent” for his role as Norman in “Home For Christmas”.
He appeared as Duke Philip of Bravia in an episode of the 3rd season of The Tudors(BBC 2007-2010). In 2011, he played Michael Kovak, a skeptical seminary student. He travels to Italy to further his research where he meets Father Lucas (cast by Anthony Hopkins) who is a well-known exorcist practitioner. Soon Michael realizes that he has to strengthen his faith in God to fight the forces of evil.
In December 2018, O’ Donoghue was cast in the Netflix series- ‘Heart Strings’.
As a music artist, Colin was a member of a famous band in Ireland named The Enemies. It consisted of five members in total which was officially formed in 2003 by Colin and his close friend Ronan McQuillan. He played the guitar and wrote back vocals. The band released its first album EP on 7 March 2011. The band also worked on the ‘5BY20’ project for Coca-Cola. In 2013, the band released their second studio album titled ‘Embark, Embrace’. Sadly, Colin had to drop his music profession to claim his fame in Hollywood.
To improve his acting skills, Colin took part in many theatres. Aoife and Isobel, The Dream of a Summer Day, Eclipse, Othello, Sky Road, and What the Dead Want.
He was nominated for the People’s Choice Awards in 2014 and the Teen’s Choice Awards in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and won one in 2016. He won the Irish Television and Film Awards for the Best New Talent in 2003.

Colin was born and raised in Drogheda by his Christian parents. His family is a strong believer in Christianity. His upbringing consisted of the respective beliefs and traditions of a proper Roman Catholic community. Colin did his early schooling from local schools and later got enrolled in Dublin’s Gaiety School of Acting to learn the nuances of performing arts. He finished two years of the program in acting and during that time, became a part of several plays and did other acting stints to sustain. He also went to Paris for a brief period to learn French. From childhood, he was passionate about music and took singing lessons from his brother. He also jammed with his brother to learn the guitar.

Colin was born to Con O’Donoghue and Mary O’ Donoghue. His maternal grandparents are Anne and Arthur Dunne. He got married to Helen O’ Donoghue in 2009 shortly after his appearance in The Tudors. Helen is a school teacher. They have been a couple from the age of eighteen and as of 2021 have two children: Evan James O’ Donoghue (son) and Millie O’ Donoghue (daughter). He also has his brother Allen O; Donoghue who was his childhood music mentor.
